Nanjing Road, 5.5 kilometers in length, is China’s premier commercial center. It was the first commercial street to evolve in Shanghai when the city opened to the outside world.
More than 360 malls, department stores, specialty shops, restaurants and cultural and recreational facilities line both sides of Nanjing Road. During the day, the street is crowded with shoppers; when night falls, colorful neon lights make the street even more attractive. Shopping in this paradise, visitors may feel the same thrill as walking on Fifth Avenue in New York City or Avenue des Champs-Elysées in Paris.
